A Year In Reflection : November 2013

Truly this was an event filled month for us. Baby Showers, Birthday’s, Newborns, Conferences and Shoeboxes oh my!

Annually, we host a get together to pack shoeboxes to send around the world, and fellowship one with another. This year we had to scale back our Operation Shoebox Party due to time constraints, and decided to just make It a family affair. I had hoped to pack 20 boxes and we exceeded that number by two. YAY! A few people from my church also got in on the giving, and altogether we donated 30 boxes! So we ended up matching last years giving which was a blessing.

Next year we will be on the ball and have our party scheduled out well in advance. As it is, we have already started our collecting for the boxes! If you’d like to learn more about this awesome giving ministry, Click Here. You can also find ideas on Pinterest!

This month also was our pre opening of PRAISE DANCE TV.com at the Dominion Dance Conference. We had a blast! Check us out when you have the chance. We will be having a Grand Launching coming soon so keep your eyes peeled and your expecters on!

A Year In Reflection : December 2013

December brought about very many things for us this year, including the loss of my great grandfather, and My Fav’s great aunt, an impromptu trip to Chi-Town that never happened, and the realization of a long term personal desire. What these things all have in common is how out the blue they came. Three phone calls that changed our perspective on things.

My Great Grand Father was a man filled with 95 years worth of experience that I feared lost, but was comforted to realize that knowledge that was gained once, can be gained again, and that His legacy lives on in the hearts and faces of our family.

My Fav’s great aunt, passed away right before the holidays. She was a lovely woman with whom we visited during our trip to Chicago a few years back. It amazes me to realize how much I gleaned from her about everyday living, and cooking, within just a few short hours. My prayers are with her husband and children right now.

Then there was the fulfilled desire. To be honest, I had given up on it and even put it out of mind because every door I tried, seemed to be closed over the years. Then out of the blue, a phone call that lead to a phone call, had me standing in front of some very special little people doing more work than even I the workaholic could have ever imagined, creating and printing portraits of nearly 400 children with their families that came together for the holidays. It was truly a special honor to me. It did however have me down in utter exhaustion for two days recovering! I have great hopes to do it all again next year.

Jefferson Hughes–A Tribute

JH07_2

I am a Cali girl born and bred with roots in Shreveport Louisiana on my moms side, and Hope Arkansas on my dads. I haven’t yet even met all of my family and except for a couple of visits and family reunions, I would not know the few I do. Still on one such reunion 6 years ago, I had the great occasion to met the eldest member and patriarch of the Hughes Clan, my great grand father Jefferson Hughes. I love that when I met him 6 years ago, at the full age of 90 (He would have made 96 in a couple of weeks), he was still in the pulpit preaching, walking, driving, and of sound mind, filled with wisdom and knowledge.

I loved learning the little I did about him, his father and mother, sisters and brothers, learning of our shared history. Seeing our faces in theirs, gleaning scraps of wisdom from the stories that floated around me. My one regret is that I did not know more of him and the fullness of the life he lived during his 95 years. I cannot help but to feel that great wisdom and knowledge is lost, that we are being left inadequately prepared to successfully navigate this world. Jefferson Hughes was a pastor until the day he died, loving sharing God’s word, and the message of hope it brings. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great great grandfather. He was well loved, and will be truly missed. Sending my love and prayers.

Time Flies When You’re At Scooter’s Jungle: A 3rd Year Teaser Story

Where has the time gone. This bold, adventurous, running three year old was barely walking yesterday. Ok I exaggerate, but really. He is growing waaaay to fast! He had a blast celebrating his 3rd birthday with family and friends at Scooter’s Jungle, where even adults can get in on the action.

And yes I did crawl and climb, (I think I earned my Kid Photographers stripes with this one!) in and through the various apparatus. What was I to do? I had to get the shots and K.J. slowed down for no one.

Delivered! Operation Christmas Child

So for the past couple of years, we have hosted shoe box packing parties to donate gifts to children around the world during Christmas. (Click here for more information)

This year time got away from us, and we could not coordinate the party we wanted, but instead held a mini one in Los Angeles amongst ourselves. Our Goal was to pack 20 boxes, but the missions department at our church decided to get in on the partying too! All together, we donated 30 boxes! Woohoo. And today was the day I delivered them. So glad to know wonderfilled people excited about giving and sharing the love of Christ.
